Wi-Fi development kit supporting the New Matter Protocol is now available

Renesas announced that it will support Matter in all future Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy (LE), IEEE 802.15.4 Thread, and Dialog Semiconductor products. This includes those purchased by Dialog Semiconductor.

Renesas Electronics Corporation has today released its first development kit supporting the brand new Matter protocol. According to reports, the Matter protocol will resolve interoperability issues for smart home gadgets. It links smart devices across ecosystems, regardless of their manufacturer. Wi-Fi Thread and Bluetooth LE are only a few of the communication technologies Matter, an application level protocol, encompasses.

Device makers using Matter’s software will be able support a wide range of smart home ecosystems, including voice services. Smart home users will be able purchase any Matter certified product, regardless of the platform they prefer.

Renesas is a member of the Connectivity Standards Alliance, an international organization that develops IoT certification and standards. Chris LaPre is the Head of Technology for the Alliance. He said, “We are delighted to see Renesas as a leader in IoT commit to support the Matter standard.” This is another indication of the positive momentum that the standard has created among both manufacturers of equipment and devices.

Renesas has been a leader in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE for over ten years. Renesas has sold over 600 million wireless devices and offers a broad spectrum of connectivity SoCs for IoT, home networking and wearable technology. Renesas offers simple development tools that help IoT device makers connect their products to the Matter ecosystem. This allows them to achieve a faster time to market.

The DA16200 is the first Renesas device to support the Matter protocol. The DA16200 is the world’s first Wi-Fi SoC to provide devices with an always-connected WiFi IoT a battery life greater than a full year. The DA16200 also supports the Renesas Quick Connect IoT via the Ultra Low Power WiFi PmodTM board. Renesas E2Studio is fully integrated to allow for simple system development with Renesas devices and MCUs. Renesas has provided samples to lead customers of the DA16200 development kit with Matter support. It anticipates that it will be widely available at the end of the quarter.
