Wi-Fi development kit supporting the New Matter Protocol is now available

Renesas announced that Matter would be supported on all future Wi-Fi products and Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) and IEEE 802.15.4 Thread (Thread), including the newly acquired Dialog Semiconductor, and Celeno Communications.

Renesas Electronics Corporation has today released its first Development Kit that supports the new Matter Protocol. According to reports, the Matter protocol will resolve interoperability issues for smart gadgets. It links smart devices across different ecosystems, regardless of their manufacturer. Wi-Fi Thread and Bluetooth LE, are only a few of the communication technologies Matter, an Application Layer Protocol, encompasses.

The Matter software stack allows device makers to create devices that support multiple smart home ecosystems, including voice services. Smart home users will have the option to buy any Matter-certified products, regardless of which platform they prefer.

Renesas is a member of the Connectivity Standards Alliance, an international organization that creates IoT certifications and standards. Chris LaPre is the Head of Technology for the Alliance. He said, “We are delighted that Renesas has committed to support the Matter standard.” This is another indication of the positive momentum that the Matter standard has created among both manufacturers of equipment and devices.

Renesas has been a leader in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE and other wireless technologies for over ten years. Renesas has sold over 600 million wireless devices and offers a broad spectrum of connectivity SoCs for IoT and wearable technologies. Renesas offers simple development tools that help IoT product manufacturers connect their products into Matter’s ecosystem. This allows them to achieve a faster time to market.

Renesas’ DA16200 is the world’s first product that supports the Matter protocol. The DA16200 is the world’s first Wi-Fi SoC to provide devices with an always-connected WiFi IoT a battery-life of over a year. The DA16200 also supports the Renesas Quick Connect IoT via the Ultra Low Power WiFi PmodTM board. Renesas E2Studio is integrated with the DA16200 Development Kit for easy system development utilizing Renesas devices and MCUs. Renesas has provided samples to lead customers of its DA16200 development kit with Matter support. It anticipates that it will be widely available at the end of the quarter.
