Iridium Messaging Transport solution is now available

IMT has been made available for Iridium Certus 100 services, and will be offered to the 200, 300, and 700 service in the first quarter 2023.

Iridium Communications Inc. IRDM has launched Iridium Messaging Transport (also known as “IMT”) to make it easier for satellite communications to be integrated into Internet of Things systems.

IMT is an Iridium Certus satellite-based networked, two-way data service. It has been designed specifically for use over this network. The goal is to simplify the integration of satellite connectivity into existing IoT systems or new ones. It is designed to support small-to-moderate-sized messages.

It is designed to reduce development costs and accelerate the time-to market for new Iridium Connected IoT Devices. It integrates with Iridium CloudConnect, Amazon Web Services.

IMT customers can send and receive messages using a “store-and-forward” method. Messages are temporarily stored on a server, before they are forwarded to their intended recipients. This can be useful when there is minimal data traffic, or when a constant connection between servers isn’t required.

IMT can be used for many things including machine-tomachine communication (M2M), email, weather updates and transactions.

IMT delivers and manages messages using industry-standard technologies and protocols like MQTT (Microsoft Message Queuing Technology), HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) and WebSockets (WSS). IMT is an attractive choice for developers, as these technologies are often used to create scalable and distributed applications.

IMT offers a variety of benefits to customers, including faster and simpler development and lower costs. It also allows for more flexibility in design, which is important for IoT.

Iridium is the only commercial satellite provider that offers dedicated worldwide voice and data communication. Its headquarters are located in McLean Virginia. Its reliable, low-latency communication services are available to businesses, consumers, wireline, cellular, and Internet service provider companies.
