SCHC Over LoRaWAN is now a part of the LoRa Alliance Certification Program

The LoRaWAN certification test tool now supports SCHC for end device certification instead of LoRaWAN tests.

The LoRa Alliance (r), a global coalition of businesses supporting the LoRaWAN (r) open standard for Internet of Things low-power wide area networks (LPWANs), has announced that devices using static context header compression can now be certified for LoRaWAN (SCHC). LoRa Alliance’s technical specifications for IPv6 were released in May last year. This makes it possible to deploy IPv6 on LoRaWAN.

As previously reported, smart metering applications and IoT applications relating to the smart grid will be the first applications that use SCHC IPv6 via LoRaWAN. IPv6 is used in many other applications. LoRaWAN meters can be used for solutions such as proactive consumption monitoring, leak detector alerts and shutoffs.

LoRaWAN can be used to identify and manage unmeasured losses that currently amount to billions in annual revenue and help conserve energy. It is also simple to implement and cost-effective. LoRaWAN CertifiedCM Devices communicating on open standards can offer similar benefits for water and gas meters.

IPv6 certification over LoRaWAN is used to verify the end-compliance devices’ functional compliance with the LoRaWAN IPv6 Adaptation layer Specification TS010-1.0.0. End devices must be LoRaWAN CertifiedCM to qualify for SCHC certification over LoRaWAN. Download the LoRaWAN certification test tool (LCTT) to get all of the testing for SCHC on LoRaWAN.
